Cancelling Uber Account

Last spring I signed up with Uber thinking I may want to use their service on a trip.
That never happened.

I would like to cancel my account but I see no way to do this on their web site.
Is it somewhere and I'm missing it?

What happens if you don't cancel it?

You could also just log onto your account and delete your charge card, which leaves your account open in case you decide to use it. We like Uber.

I would imagine the concern is that Uber is storing your credit card information, and if so, I would do as Tab suggests. You may want or need to use it somewhere in future, and in that event it would be a pain to have to start from scratch with the account.

Actually, at first I was concerned that they have my credit card info.

Then this morning I logged in to my account and noticed that the credit card number that they have has been disabled.

About a month or two back I received a new card in the mail and when I called the credit card company they told me that my card may have been compromised by fraudulent activity so was replaced.

Then I started to get annoyed that they don't permit cancelling an account. That's not right.

I would email them.

Once we had a question about a trip charge, and emailed Uber. They responded right away and fixed the problem immediately.

Myer, you can cancel your account, but it needs to be sent as a request through their help/support page. This opens a ticket so they can manually delete your account.

If you use this link, you should be able to message them about canceling your account: https://support.uber.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

Thanks.

I sent an email message. I also asked that they stop sending me emailed promos.
We'll see what happens.

Next time someone is in Uber cab, please ask what type of liability insurance they have. If they do not have commercial insurance and there is an injury, there is a strong possibility that the insurance will not pay.

Regarding the emails, the easiest thing to do is click the Unsubscribe link at the bottom of the page. That will work better and faster, too, than requesting Unscubscribe in an email.

I received an email trying to convince me not to cancel my account.

When I then asked them to do it again I received a response that the request is being sent to somebody else to take care of.

What advantage do they have in knowing your credit card number? It isn't as if they can charge you without having rendered a service (yes, I know if they did it would be incumbent upon you to do "all the work" of disputing the charge). Are you concerned about the security of the CC info?

It's the kind of "principle" only retired persons have time for.

A few minutes ago I checked my email and I had received a promo email from Uber.

So I thought I'd try to log into my account.

Unfortunately I was successful.

My account is still there and active.

And I'm still on their email lists.

I sent them another email and told them to check the various social media sites because this publicity won't help their image. I'm sure they don't care.

Well, that was fast.

Within a couple of minutes I received an email from Uber.

The excuse was the backlog.

The person wrote they personally just cancelled the account.

I then tried to log in and the account is gone.

What jv827 said.
It wasn't an automated process. A human needed to delete the account.
