Can You Typically See Mt St Helens on the train from Seattle to Portland?

Hi

I'll be taking this train in June and I just noticed that the tracks seem to pass pretty close to the volcano. Even though I was but a wee lad when the Mount Saint Helens came alive, the 1980 eruption was definitely an event that marked my childhood.

Can you actually see the volcano typically or is it more like Mount Rainier from Seattle, only if you're lucky enough to get an especially blue sky day?

Best Wishes, Daniel

Honestly, no. If it is clear, you may see Mt. Rainier for a few minutes from the train.
Are you riding the Coast Starlight or one of the Amtrak Cascades trains? The Oregon DoT just bought 2 new Talgo trainsets to supplement the Talgos owned by Washington and Amtrak. The new trains are names the Mt. Jefferson and the Mount Bachelor.
Mt. St. Helens is best viewed up close from the Johnston Ridge Visitor Center.

It is best viewed from an airplane flying into either SEATC or Portland.

Yes, I saw that: my comment again is best viewed from an airplane...so IF anyone reading the posts want to see it best, you need to take a Plane.
