Can you suggest good lunch spot near Lihue?

We will be going to Kauai soon...Can anyone suggest a good lunch spot in or near Lihue or Kaapa after a long flight?

Dukes, on the water. Great place for your first Mai Tai and fish tacos.

Scotty's BarBQ. The food is OK but the views are outstanding.

My favorite for that "first day" lunch is outside at JJ's Broiler, overlooking Kalapaki Beach, the harbor, and the grounds of the Marriott. The food is good at lunch (much better than at dinner) and the tropical setting is perfect. I always have the cheeseburger with pineapple. Nearby Duke's is wonderful, too, but parking is not as easy. JJ's is located at the beach end of a little strip mall

Definitely Hamura's Saimin Stand.

Maria's closed years ago -- replaced by a sandwich shop (now closed), and recently reopened as Kaua`i Pasta's "Lihu`e branch".

Duke's is great -- save it for after you've unpacked and rested up.

Scotty's BBQ would work, but only if you're heading north from the airport (it's at the north end of Kapa`a).

JJ's Broiler has good parking, is just minutes from the airport, is easy to find, and has great views.

Hamura's Saimin -- always high on my list of recommended "very Kaua`i" eateries. If you don't lunch their first day, be sure to make time for it sometime during your visit.

Hamura's...and don't forget...the deep fried wontons are not on the menu so you have to ask for them...they are delish!

Not sure I'd recommend a busy lunch counter with a potential line to wait in(Hamura's) for a first lunch after a long flight. I'd look for something much more relaxing.

I like Scotty's too, but as mentioned above, it's not in Lihue.

Brian,

You didn't recommend it. Several others did. To each his own. :-d

Another vote for Hamura's.

Well, if Hamarua's is too crowded, you could always opt for the Lihue BBQ Inn on the same street. Killer desserts.

Try Fish Express in Lihue (across from Wal-Mart). Excellent grilled fish (my fave was the blackened ono). Great prices. It's a strictly take-out place only as there is no seating. Grab lunch and have yourself a picnic on the beach!

Dukes. It's two minuts from the airport, right on the water, great food. Then you can take a strole through the Hotel, or shops in the area. We just did this. Fish and chips and burgers were great.
