Can you snorkel in Ft Lauderdale?

Obviously, I know you CAN snorkel anywhere, but is there anything to see? Are there any reefs there, or should we take a daytrip to Key Largo?

Thank you for your time & Happy planning!

It's been a long time, but there used to be an artificial reef program in South FLorida. They'd intentionally sink old boats/ships in strategic locations to attract fish for fishermen and divers. I think some of the reefs are suitable for snorkeling, but am not sure.

Hah, I found a list of the artificial reefs in Broward County (Ft. Laud's county)

I would recommend you take the drive to Key Largo (John Pennekamp State Park) to snorkle. It's really not that far from FLL, and the water is much clearer for snorkeling.

You will not find too much interesting underwater scenery in the Ft. Lauderdale waters. Head south - Sombrerro Reef (though quite a bit farther than Key Largo) is a beautiful reef that's great for snorkeling. But Key Largo will certainly offer you more sights than Ft. Lauderdale.

In the Keys, the reefs with excellent snorkeling are 5-6 miles offshore, and you take a boat tour to do it.
