We would like to take a short trip during the last week in March. We live in LA and are looking for a trip w/in driving distance. We were hoping for something outdoors - camping, hiking. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

How about Borrego Springs? You can camp at Anza Borrego Park or stay at one of the motels/hotels. The Anza Borrego Park (I'm not sure if it is a National or a State Park) has some nice hikes from very easy to more difficult. It's desert terrain and if you're lucky you might be there for spring flowers. Google for the web site for Borrego Springs. We live in Long Beach and it takes us about 3 hrs. to drive there. It's a nice desert resort, not particularly overrun with crowds and there are a couple of inexpensive places to eat and stay in town. Another option would be Ojai. Both are Spring/winter resorts.

ahhh, sorry for the ambiguity. I live in Los Angeles. I've been reading up on gorp.away.com. Looks like there are lots of hiking areas around here. Anyone have any particular favorites?

I would do either Anza Borego, Josua Tree or Death Valley(kind of a long drive). Now living in Northern California, besides missing the southern beaches I miss the desert in the spring!
