Can You Get a Thanksgiving Dinner on South Beach?
 

We are a family party of six staying four days over Thanksgiving at the Loews in Miami Beach. We chose the hotel for its location, just a few blocks from our daughter's building. I would like to make reservations at a hotel for Thanksgiving dinner and need suggestions. It doesn't have to be something plainly traditional but should at least include turkey and some sort of mashed potato, otherwise my mother will not consider it an "official" holiday meal. We were traveling at Thanksgiving last year, too, and I promised her we would find turkey this year :)

Any ideas? I am going to call Emeril's to ask what they are planning for Thanksgiving, but am guessing we will eat there enough as it is and would like some other names. Thanks in advance for any help. (Yes, have been on open table, want fodorite recs!)

RestArrant at the Ritz Carlton will probably have a traditional dinner but the menu looks very pricey---- has anyone eaten there? Is it truly five stars?

There are over 30 restaurants on South Beach, I can't imagine all of the being closed on Thanksgiving, especially the Hotel restaurants... Its hard to pay $50+ per person for Turkey, so I would only use the Ritz as a last resort...

Since your daughter lives there, have her poke around closer to the day...

Steakhouses or places like BLT would also be a good place to look.

I would expect most of the big hotels to mainly have a buffet on Thanksgiving. But of course, the buffet would feature turkey as well as other things. Is that an option? In Naples, for example, the main dining on Thanksgiving at the Ritz is a buffet.

I guess should have said a "real" Thanksgiving dinner that would satisfy my Southern mother. She travels widely and eats just about anything (not picky) but likes those comfort foods at holidays, not sushi. Last year we were visiting another child in Orlando (I don't know why there has been a mass migration of my children to Florida?) and she really missed the turkey dinner. Personally, I wouldn't care if I didn't eat another bite of turkey again, ever.

Patrick, I must be brain dead--- I did not even think about a buffet at a big hotel, but that's probably exactly what we need. I'll bet the Fontainebleu also has the same thing, and every other hotel on the beach. Putting on sheepish face now... but still interested in any American cuisine in SoBe where we might find a modern version of Thanksgiving :)

Gary, have done so, but DD is on a crazy work schedule, long and irregular hours and is a vegetarian. None of that means she's incapable of finding a nice restaurant for Thanksgiving, but ....
