Do you think this would be possible?

3 full days in NYC in early december, airfare from the san francisco bay area, and perhaps 200-300 spending money?

I can go lower on the spending money of course.

I am also considering that since airfare to Paris at the time of the year is around 350-450, maybe I could get some kind of connecting flight that have a large layover if possible---flight agent told me of this type of route last year....

I just need a hotel room without bugs and with a bathroom. I am not much picky beyond that.

I know it is a long shot, but I am hoping.

How far is Jamaica, NY from NYC? Online it says that it is not far, but of course, far is all relative.

Well, I was going to suggest flying JetBlue, but they only go as far as NY. Jamaica is in Queens - I wouldn't recommend staying there.

Is it really possible to have that large of a layover - I didn't think it was.

I don't see why not. You can book airfare for under $400 now SF-NYC on various routes. If you look harder and/or wait a little, you can probably get one closer to $300.

You can stay in Manhattan for about $100/night. One place I used to stay often is Herald Square Hotel. Totally safe, totally clean, and very convenient. You can get a single room with shared bath for $79/night mid-week in Dec; $99 with private bath. $10 more on weekends.

If you fly red-eye SF-NYC, you can get three full days by just staying for 3 nights of hotel. That's $700, with $300 to spend.

You are off by about 100 per night, rkkwan.
December hotels rates are projected to be very high.
But I still think it is a great tip.
The hotel gets good reviews and odds are it will still be significantly less than other decent hotels in the area.

I have a friend who stayed at the Gershwin Hotel near the Empire State Building. It's a very nice hotel with reasonable rates. You have the option of having your own room or bunking with other people in hostel-like rooms. I checked their website for the first three nights of December, and it looks like you can stay there for about $130/night. I imagine the bunking option is cheaper.

Don;t know your exact dates - but it does seem ,ike the Herald Square hotel (not reco'ing - have no knowledge) is available for about $100 plus the 18% tax. Reviews are what you would expect for a budget hotel - OK from people expecting budget and not so good from people who don;t understand NYC prices - and think they should get something upscale instead of super basic.

You don;t want to stay in Jamaica - this is either airport hotels - not vey nice and from which it will take you forever to get back and forth - or places you REALLY don't want to stay.
