Can anyone suggest Maui Tour Advice

Hello. I visited Maui last summer for a very short five days, but had the best time. I had a rental car so did the Road to Hana on my own. It was a great trip, especially taking the back road. Didn't have any trouble with it and the landscape was so different. You just have to drive very cautiously.
May I suggest that you consider joining the Activity Owner's Association on Maui if you are interested in lots of activities. I did this, and got half price discounts on the Haleakala sunrise bike trip, a luau, parasailing, and there are many, many other options. The Trilogy excursion to Lanai was one that I didn't have time to do, but this was very regretable. Anyway, I think the membership is something like $20, and it was well worth it. Only one person has to join, and discount applies to up to four people, I believe. Check it out, I doubt if you'll be sorry. I do not have the phone number, but if you search this forum it might be here.

Sandi
If you are competent on a bike, I would recommend Aloha Bicycle Tours for Haleakala trip.

This is not a mass tourist ride down the volcano. You could drive up to the summit yourself for the sunrise, and then meet the bike tour around 7-30 am in Kula. This tour does not leave from the very top but it goes down the "other" side of Haleakala t the Tedecshi Winery for a great picnic lunch. The trips are limited to about 8-12 riders. Personalized and great service.

You sent me scrambling for my scrapbooks...ok...I did not want to drive the road to Hana cause I would have had to drive and its exhausting or so it seemed to me. We took a tour and it was great. They stopped along the way, we had lunch on the beach, we went ALL THE WAY AROUND..and no way would I ever ever drive the back side after leaving Hana..plus we saw Lindbergh's grave....the tour co was Valley Isle Excursions...661-8687....dont know the area code. Also to Haleakala we took Ekahi tours and they were super also. We drove up about 4:30 AM and were there for the sunrise. If you're gwanna do it...go for it!! Dont have a number for Ekahi but think they have a web page. You can drive all the rest...and the little 11 miles from Kehai (sp) around the top to Lahaina is super....like a little Hana drive. Many people do drive to Hana but I think you see more on the tour..what ever dont miss it!!! Aloha!

Hi: Do not miss the Trilogy - we were on the Trilogy III with Captain Jeff (great guy) - went snorkeling, had a BBQ on the boat (really!), and were gone for about 5 hours. Cost was $89 - worth every penny - they took us to two different places to snorkel off the side of the huge catamaran - saw octopus, turtles, humuhumunukunukuapuaa (spelling?)fish, which is the state fish, and lots more. Have fun!

I'd second doing the cycle with Aloha. Looking at the dawn riders come down, encased in thick jackets and helmets and looking very tired, we had a much more pleasant ride, and the winery and lunch was nice. Besides, if you want a great view, go to the top of the volcano at sunset - there are fewer people there and you are less likely to see only clouds.

The Trilogy trip to Lanai is great too. It is well worth doing the scuba trip with them once you get there (they also go snorkelling), and the tour around the island.

The back road from Hana may not be perfect, but it is far from being a four-wheel drive only jaunt. With all the twists and turns, you won't be going fast anyway. The equally twisty (but better paved) route around the top of the island is also very scenic.

HTH,

dfx

Was on Maui in August wit my two children and booked several tours through Tom Barefoot's in Lahaina. they are very informed and helpful, plus ther's a 10% discount on most tours. Went to Hana with Temptation Tours - excellent! Don't miss the Trilogy sunset cruise to Lanai. It was the best thing we did. I would also recommend Blue Water Rafting for slightly different snorkel trips.

You can get discounts on Maui tours through Hawaii Activity World. My wife and I saved a bundle through them.

We did a helicopter tour (great trip, but it was a little overcast when we went), a snorkel trip to Molikini, a dinner cruise, horseback riding and took in a fantastic show (Ulalena??) during our 10 days there. We probably saved 200-300 on everything (which was great because then she could justify buying this rediculously expensive gold necklace she found!)!

Can't remember their web site address, but their email is [email protected].
