Camping Spring Break in Missouri
 

Will be driving up from Arkansas. On the way into MO, we plan to stop at Prarie Grove Battlefield and Pea Ridge Battlefield ( both in Northern Ar). We will be camping with our camper with our three kiddos ( ages 12,10,6) during their Spring Break. Not sure where we should stay.

We prefer State parks vs. KOA type of places. We like trees, hiking, etc. We are open to changing locations up to 3 times. Will leave on a Saturday morning and willing to stay as long as a week. It's only about 3 hours from our house into the southern tip of MO. I was thinking maybe stay the first few nights at Roaring River SP. Spend one day messing around the camp ground, then the next drive up to CArthage to go to the Precious Moments Chapel. My girls and I have been wanting to see it for a while.

Also there is a federal hatchery in NEosho that I think the kids would like.

Where should we go from there? Ha Ha Tonka looks fun- anywhere else around there that is neat? Any other neat State Parks we should visit?

The last stop we thought could be around Mansfield, as we normally buy our gardening seeds at Baker Creek there, then go to the Laura Ingalls Wilder Musuem and homestead.


Just looking for thoughts on places to stay, itineraries etc.


PS- we go to Branson alot- looking to do something different this Spring break. We like kind of off the beaten path stuff, net historical sites, etc.

The Trail of Tears SP would be a good starting point.

There are good informational signs that cover some of the history of the area.

I am not familiar with specific campgrounds but you might take a look at Iron County.
There is Elephant Rocks State Park which kids love as you can climb around on the boulders. There is Johnson Shut Inns- a beautiful spot on the river.

In the Arcadia Valley in the small community of Pilot Knob, one of the battles of the civil war was fought- Battle of Pilot Knob. There is a museum, some remains of the fort in Fort Davidson. Grant received his commission in Ironton and there are still cannonball holes in the courthouse.
They area around Eminence has several camping spots along the river.

Its a beautiful part of the country.
