camping in keys - on ocean

I would like to save money and camp on the ocean side in Bahia State Park campground-(tent). But i also have resrvations at a nice hotel. I am worried that it will be too sweltering hot in July. Will the ocean breeze keep us cool. Not sure what to do. I also want to be closer to nature and all..I am a North Fla native . Thanks

Angela - I think you'd be making a mistake to depend on sea breezes in the middle of the summer, when humidity is high and low temperatures are in the 80s. I've been to Key West in late May when there was no breeze at all. Have you considered a cabin in Bahia Honda? It may be too late to get one, but that'd be sort of a middle ground from camping to nice hotel.

There are some ocean breezes, of course, but it will still be hot. Not to mention it'll probably rain for an hour most afternoons. If you're used to camping, you'll probably enjoy this "back to nature" lifestyle. If you're only doing it to save money, however, I think you might live to regret it! Why not compromise and stay at a somewhat rustic place on the water? I highly recommend Parmer's Place on Little Torch Key about 13 miles south of Bahia Honda.

Back in the days when I was a mere teenager, I used to camp at Bahia Honda (on the ocean) in August (the first week of August was the start of lobster season).
It was hot, but not unbearably so. Or so I remember.

I do remember one trip when we were attacked by sand mites at about 3:00 am and we had to get out of the tent and into the ocean to get any relief. That was a LONG night.

There can be nice breezes. Of course, it can also be hot, humid and NO a breeze.

Bahia Honda is a great key. Have fun.
