Camping Generator!?

Hi everyone. I'm new to this forum and need some help BIG TIME. I'm going camping in the Mojave Desert soon and am planning on taking a generator to power up the A/C unit my sweetie and I picked up for our tent (hubba hubba). I also want to be able to run an electric hot dog cooker and a microwave. Other than that we are "oh naturall". My question is whether or not a 4000 watt generator will be enough or if I should consider going diesel? We love to be out of doors but don't particularly love being sweaty if we can help it. Any thoughts campers? Otherwise I'll be starting fires with sticks and making compares with leaves and pins in the stream. Thanks all!

I think it depends on what route you take to the Mojave.

A hot dog cooker, a microwave, a/c . . . And a tent???

Ha ha

Won't the cool temperature in your tent attract snakes?

Check the wattage on both the A/C and the hot dog cooker.
Turn off and unplug the A/C when you use the hot dog cooker.
Why not use a propane stove for all cooking?
If you are camped within 100 feet of someone else shut off the generator by 10PM. Don't annoy the neighbors.
Honda generators are quieter than the others.

If this isn't a troll, it is a good imitation of one.

Sorry, OP. If you are serious, and methinks the electric hot dog cooker is not serious, follow tomfuller's advice though it is the starting current on air conditioners and refrigerators that is the issue. Once they are running, they don't use a lot of juice.

Where ya gonna carry the gas? In the trunk?

Oh, and you are unlikely to be sweaty in the Mojave.

snakes!

I carry my 20 lb. tank in the right rear corner of my trunk wrapped in a beach towel and wedged in with a sleeping bag.
The cast iron stove and hose/regulator came from Harbor Freight.

I'm skeptical of the hot dog cooker as well since the world's best hot dog cooker is a stick and a campfire!

I would skip the camping idea and stay in a motel.
