Camping along the coast in Washington State
 

Hello, <BR> <BR>I'm hoping to go camping next weekend along the Washington State coast. Are there any place that you would recommend? We want to be as close to the beach as we can...that's the most important thing. A nice beach. We haven't been over there and there doesn't seem to be many listed along the coast. Any comments is greatly appreciated!

There are a couple of campsites along in the coast in Olympic National Park. Kalaloch and Mora would probably be your best bets; Ozette is another possibility but it's a three mile hike to the beach from there (but it's gorgeous out there and the beach is only accessible by hiking in, which keeps the crowds down). You can also camp on the beach in spots along the coast, but you generally need a reservation and a permit to do so. The Olympic National Park website has details.

Check to see if there are any camp grounds on the San Juan Islands. If so, that would definitely be my choice. Absolutely beautiful islands and a nice ferry ride.

It isn't "coastal" but nice camping around Lake Quinalt with great hiking areas.The best camping area ( although not in WA.) is Fort Stevens State park near Astoria. The is also a KOA campground in that area with inside pool. <BR>Also wonderful camping in Port Towsend at Fort Walden (not sure if this is exact name) It was formerly a military base and is now run by the Park Dept.or some non-profit outfit. <BR>The have all sizes of houses for rent also, some big Victorian style that are great for family reunions or groups. It is adjacent to the water, not exactly the ocean but some part of Puget Sound. <BR>It would be interesting to know where you would be starting out from and if you do "real" camping--tents etc... <BR>Don't forget WARM clothes.... <BR> <BR> <BR> <BR> <BR>

Thanks everyone for your comments. I live north of Seattle. I have been to the San Juans, yes very beautiful. I just have not been to the WA coast. We have a '73 VW camper bus that we got and are taking camping for the first time. So we are looking for northern coastal camping..if there is anything.

Sounds like it will be fun if you find a place!! I used to have a camper van. I would check out Ocean Shores, or Copalis Beach.
