We're going to Italy in two weeks. I'm going to be taking photos using 200 speed film. With that speed, are there any problems with the film being scanned - with either unused or undeveloped film. Some people say it's no problem, so say to buy a bag that protects it and other say just to have the security agent personally search the bag. Don't know what to do?

I've seen signs at airports that warn against screening film of higher speeds--like 800. We had some 800 speed film on our last trip which was screened both ways, and our photos came out fine. I don't think you need to worry about 200 speed. Pack it in your carry-on, and ask the person at the screening point. I truly don't think it will be a problem.

You should have no problems with 200-speed film.
(For peace of mind, you could buy a lead bag!)

PS: Just don't put it in your checked luggage.

X-ray effects are cumulative so it really depends how many times you will have it scanned. If it's unsafe to scan 800 once, then you'll be in jeopardy in 3 scans of 200. I always have my film hand inspected in the US, only one person fussed but they still did it. You shouldn't have anything to worry about but some of my pictures earn my keep so I'm a bit more protective.
