Camden Yards, Baltimore, suggestions for hotels

Hi, we'll be attending a game at Camden Yards for the first time and would welcome suggestions for nearby hotels. We would prefer one within walking distance with parking, doesn't have to be really close to the ball park as we are good walkers, as long as it is an OK neighborhood. Our price line is $200 or under. Would the waterfront be too expensive?

And yes I do check in with Trip Advisor but I like the Fodors direct responses so much better, plus you guys are more fun.

Whenever I need travel help I know where to turn, the Fodors Nation! Many thanks for any info you may be able to provide.

Happy trails,
Aranda

Priceline works especially well for Baltimore since they have a section called "Inner Harbor". While you may not get a hotel right along the harbor, the others are even closer to Camden Yards. We did this years ago and got the Westin- a beautiful hotel, several blocks from Harbor, more designed for business than tourists - but perfectly fine for our purposes. We have also stayed at Holiday Inn at Inner Harbor - also not right on Harbor but fine location. It was a bit higher quality thatn I have found at other Holiday Inns.

There are some funky parts of Baltimore and some that are downright scary - I would stick to Inner Harbor, all of which is walkable to Camden Yards. We have found prices for hotels goes up when Orioles are in town - and really get higher for teams like Yankees and Red Sox.

Aranda-We stayed at the Inn at Henderson's Wharf in Fell's Point when we attended Red Sox/Orioles games last summer and we loved it. Just a short walk to the water taxi which will take you right over to the game. The Inn is really nice and it is located near some nice restuarants.
As Gail said, the prices rise when the Red Sox or Yankees are in town and the hotels fill up too. I wouldn't advise waiting until the last minute to book your hotel.
We loved Baltimore and can't wait to return.

The hotels right around the harbor include the Marriott Waterfront, the Renaissance, the Hyatt, and the Harbor Court, and all of those are very nice. But gail's comment that any of the hotels in the Inner Harbor area would be fine is right on. There is a Marriott on Pratt Street very close to the ballpark, and also a brand new Hilton. That Holiday Inn is close too, and it's probably one of the nicest HI's in the chain. But if you stay close to the Harbor you'll be right where you want to be before and after the game.

The best thing to do is to stay in Fells Point at the Admiral Fell Inn. Right across from it is the water taxi which takes you to the Inner Harbor. From there it's a five minute walk to Camden Yard, and you've missed the traffic, etc. There is parking at the inn. Great city, great historic inn, wonderful neighborhood. Hampton Inn is a stones throw from Camden Yards. Very comfortable hotel.

Sheraton is a straight one block from Camden Yard.

and it is a block to the Inner Harbor restaurants, etc.

There is a Hyatt also.

The Sheraton is a great suggestion for splitting the distance between the harbor and the ballpark.

Your info is so right on, many many thanks!! Really no one but the Fodor's Nation would know so much and share so readily.

I will be sure to check out these great suggestions, and book early (thanks for the tip regarding the price increases for certain games).

Also, sorry for this late "thank you" but we were snowed in (four to five feet, no power for a week, then thanks to Time Warner no internet/TV/phone for another week).

Happy trails to you all,
Aranda
