Camden/Rockport/BarHarbor/Acadia - Springtime

It's been awhile since I've journeyed that far north. Any thoughts on how early we can set out to beat the crowds, get off season rates, yet still have a good bit open, including a decent restaurant or two, some shops and biking the carraige paths of acadia?
Thinking a 4 or 5 night getaway road trip from south of Boston. April/May? or do we need to wait until late may?

Thanks for your thoughts and opinions

Probably mid June this year as most of our schools have had so many snow days this year that they will not be out until late June. Some places still will not be open until July, but plenty will be available.

I vote for mid-June and lupines or whenever Waterman's lobster opens.

If you're flexible, keep an eye on the weather and plan on the first weekend that looks good beginning mid-May. June can be rainy too, so grab a good weekend when you can. No real need for pre-booked accomodations except maybe for memorial wkd if you're really fussy about where to stay.

Thanks everyone. It seems that things just begin to wakeup in May, but we can play it by ear and do have a flexible schedule. Any favorite lodgings, any favorite eats, any favorite bike paths or carraige trails or hikes?
