Camden, Newport or Providence
 

Flying into Boston with BF (we are both 47)- have 3 nights to drive to Maine or RI. Enjoy hiking, relaxing, good local food (esp lobster) but we are both laid back. Don't care about fancy dining or antiquing. But good quality linens and good food! Any insight between Camden, (or elswhere in ME) vs towns in RI, with hotel ideas would be appreciated!

Nice, DebitNM! Rockland is a good choice since it's near our favorite lobster shack. It's an easy hike out to Owl's Head Light. You can do Mount Battie as an easy day trip or head to the Harpswells to explore the area and have lobster for lunch (are you going before Columbus Day?)
Haven't been to Newport in ages but like Providence. It's just not as "laid back" as Maine. Camden is beautiful but it's also too popular so we don't stay there (but stayed in Lincolnville last September, just north of Camden). We also don't stay in Boothbay for the same reason. Get the map of conservation areas in the Harpswells for some easy hikes and you won't have to worry about crowds. Also, very few gift shops around.

Berry manor Inn has the BesT homemade pie! They have 3 varieties that are available 24/7 along with ice cream. Excellent breakfasts. You cal help yourself whenever it strikes your fancy!

The Kennebunkport Inn

Waterman's, you betcha. Found it years ago when there was just a few picnic tables and no covered porch. Just saw this little handpainted sign with an arrow by the side of the road. I think the only thing we've enjoyed more was the time the weather was drizzly so we decided to go to a volunteer fire department benefit - lobster and your choice of mussels or crabs. The tables had rocks so you could crack the crabs. Pie cost extra. There were some pretty good side dishes included and you could buy a single lobster if one wasn't enough.

Off season, Kennebunkport maybe. In season, it's wall to wall tourists.

Of the three, I agree that Maine is the most appealing, given your criteria.
