Camden, Maine: lodging/dining
 

Any suggestions on this area for nice places to stay and eat? We were also told this is a great place to see the fall foliage...is this true?

I was just there in mid-september and a few trees were already changing. There are loads of B&B's along Route 1 in Camden. We stayed at a little dream, which was lovely and within walking distance of the downtown area. But there are several around there, and they all have websites, and are on this website:(http://www.camdeninns.com/). After seeing them all in "person" the website pictures are very accurate. We were there 3 nights, and ate at the Waterfront, the Atlantica and went to Lincolnville (maybe a 10 mins drive north on rt 1) to the Lobster Pound. All were delicious!! One thing to note is that all the restaurants close fairly early, not seating much later than 8. I would be tempted to drive north on rt 1 and maybe venture on some side roads. Since camden is on the water, while there are still lots of trees, its not the forest where colors would be spectacular. We drove down to Stonington from Camden one day (~2hrs) and were commenting how the drive would be gorgeous in the fall.
I know many posters have raved about "Maine: An Explorers Guide", but I have to agree with them. It was my bible while we were there.

We were in Camden in July. Like the previous poster, we also ate in Atlantica, which was very good. However, if you are in the area you must try and eat at Primo in Rockland (about 15 minutes south of Camden). Our dinner there was one of the best meals we have ever had. You must call well in advance for reservations.

We were in Camden last year at this time and the colors were wonderful and became more intense the 10 days we traveled the coast of Maine. Are you going on a schooner trip by any chance. That was why we were in Camden - The Lady Day- was the schooner we took for a 4 night cruise on the bay. It was faulous. After the trip we stayed at the BlackBerry Inn (www.blackberryinn.com)and very much enjoyed our stay. There are numerous B & B in the area. We also took a day trip up to Bar Harbor (short drive) and then drove down Maine to Boston and home. Try www.camdenac.com or www.camdeninns.com for a listing of accommodations. I highly recommend A Little Dream ...try to get the suite "idlewatch"..it is truly amazing.Its in a seperate building from the main house and the bed is so comfortable..the muffins here are to die for.Have fun!!

Just got back, and if price isnt an issue, the Narumbega is unreal.Stay in the Arundel Suite--large room, with huge bath/shower, and a very nice walkout deck with chairs under a tree overloking the bay.
