Camden and Stonington, Maine

hello - to anyone who has stayed on Deer
Isle in mid Oct; we are renting a house at
Stonington harbor. our question is:
how hard/time consuming is it to leave the island for day trips to the coast? also,
spending weekend at Camden Harbour
Inn, anyone ever stay there? thanks for
your help

I don't remember exactly how long it takes, but getting from Stonington to Route 1 is slow and curvy (I'm thinking about 45 min. or so?). I assume you are looking for quiet, you'll find that! There are maybe 2 restaurants in town. We took the mailboat to Isle au Haut one day for a VERY quiet, peaceful hike.

In re-reading your question, I think you might not know that there is a bridge, so getting off the island is no big deal.

thanks for your reply. I knew it would
be quiet and I knew about the bridge.
is it a toll bridge? thanks

I don't recall a toll. It's not really a big bridge, either.

Also stayed on Isle au Haut and loved the island. We rode bikes all around which I would not recommend due to many dirt/bumpy sections. A hike would be lovely or a limited bike ride. We stayed in Camden and Isle au Haut the same trip. To my memory it's relatively easy to go from one place to another in a few hours. You might also look at Blue Hill as a place for a day trip. Don't forget to sample the Deer Isle pepper jelly!
