Cambria Lodging
Where should we spend a night in Cambria in September? In the past we have stayed at Fogcatcher Inn. The room was nice but it seemed overpriced considering that it had no ocean view. On a subsequent trip we spent a night in a disappointing place that had six units. Any ideas about a good value with breakfast included?

jimshep,
See this thread that I just wrote about the Burton Inn: http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...amp;dirtyBit=1 |
Get an oceanview room at the Cypress Cove Inn. If you were any closer to the water, you would be swimming! LOL
The views are really pretty, we had a king room with a fireplace. We stayed here last June at night it was cool enough for the fire in the room. Very romantic, wonderful beds with down comforters, nice breakfast in the am. The jacuzzi is in the back, but you can also use the pool free of charge at their sister property, The Fogcatcher next door. Enjoy Cambria! ***kim*** |
I just returned from Cambria and would not recommend the Moonstone Inn. It was not very nice. The decor seemed to be from garage sales and the owner needed some lessons in being polite. The only nice thing was the breakfast that was served in my room!

You should have checked these boards for Cambria lodging! I have always thought that this place looked run-down and would never recommend it.
The Blue Whale Inn, Fireside Inn, Cypress Cove or the Fogcatcher are all nice. Also, the Pelican Suites if you want luxury! ***kim*** |
I can highly recommend Blue Whale Inn. Had a very enjoyable stay there a few years ago.

Aren't the Innkeepers wonderful here? And the breakfasts are excellent! www.bluewhaleinn.com is their website. ***kim**

I had checked reviews on Tripadvisor and the Moonstone Inn got good reviews! As the saying goes, "one man's trash is another man's treasure" :) |
You stayed there and didn't like it, did you? From the way the exterior of the property looks, I wouldn't go near this place with so many other upscale places to choose from.
My parents stayed at the new Mariner's Inn last summer for %69/night. This property is new and right next door to the Sea Chest. They loved their stay there! MI needs a remodel, IMO!! ***kim*** |
Interesting about the Mariner's Inn. This is one of the comments from Trip Advisor:
We recently stayed at the Mariners Inn by the Sea in Cambria. Mariners is the second property as you enter Moonstrone Beach Drive from the South. This property is a motor lodge that has seen better days. Our room was in major need of renovation.Caulking around bathtub and toilet missing or coming off. Patch work on the walls that needed paint. Missing floor boards, the list goes on. Even the paint job inside was terrible. Paint drippings all over ceiling light that was just left there. The owner seems to have no faith that you will like the property since he charges your credit card immediately for all your days as you check in.There are close to 20 motels along Moonstone Beach Drive. No need to choose Mariners Inn. I guess unless you physically go to see the property, you really don't know what you are getting! |
I read those reports, also. One comment was "what are these guys talking about, this place is great......" The reviews are about half positive, half negative. I haven't personally stayed there, but my parents enjoyed their stay in the newly remodeled rooms, so that makes a big difference. And for $79/night on a weekend in August, who can complain?
We'll probably be checking out the Pelican Suites on our next visit to Cambria. The rooms look a little over-done for my husband's taste, he prefers the more contemporary look. ( Was very happy with the Hotel Healdsburg decor when we stayed there.) Our king, oceanview, fireplace at the Cypress Cove is my favorite so far. The bathrooms are uneventful, I had to bring my own candles and bubble bath, but other than that the room was very romantic. I enjoyed the window seat. If you were any closer to the ocean at this property, you would be swimming! LOL ***kim*** :) |
We recently booked a home in Cambria thru : cambriavacationrentals.com
We had a HUGE house (3 bedrooms/2 baths), with an ocean view (from the living room & kitchen), BBQ, jacuzzi, for 225 a night (4 people). There is also a cleaning charge, but it wasn't much. The rental price is dependent on the amount of people. It's really the best way to go! |
