Cambria
How far is Cambria from Carmel/Monterey and is this close to Big Sur?
Thank you. |
Big Sur is 74 miles north of Cambria and 29 miles south of Montery.
This kind of information is easy to find by using sites maps.yahoo.com and maps.google.com. |
But you have to remember that you will be driving about 30mph a large part of the time to get to Carmel. So it is a good 2 hours usually from Cambria to Big
Sur/Carmel. I've done it numerous times and it could be even longer depending on how comfortable you are with the hairpin curves and traffic. |
To be more accurate, it is about 2 hours to the heart of Big Sur (Ventana
Inn, for example) and another 45 minutes north to Carmel/Monterey. |
Also, allow time to enjoy the sites, take pictures, stop for lunch, etc. :-)

happytrailstoyou: thank you for the websites, I am familiar with them perhaps I should of asked my question in a different manner, I will be staying in Monterey and want to do Big Sur on a day trip wanted to know if it was possible, since I don't have an address of anything in particular in Big Sur except for reading here about it and some pictures, I threw Cambria in for some reason I thought they were close, thanks again.

Under the circumstances you outline, a trip to Cambria would be too much (like trying to see Pompeii in a day trip from Rome).
But not to worry. Highway 1 south of Monterey is spectacular. On a day trip you can drive farther than Big Sur. My advice would be to drive as far as you can. The drive north provides different views than the drive south. There are some state parks along the way. |
Happytrailstoyou: thank you I saw a beautiful bridge in mid air that I it took my breath away. I am coming with 3 of my good friends and I really want to show them all the beauty of California and as I mentioned before I saw some beautiful sights but, I do want to keep a realistic distance we’ve already reserved the hotels and I don’t want to drive too far (2-3 hours is ok.) thank you for your help.

There is a state park called Point Lobos, which is just south of Carmel. If you want to show your friends some terrific scenery, this is a terrific place to go. It is on the way to Big Sur, so you could get going reasonably early in the morning and head south, stopping at Point Lobos for a couple hours, then continue south. Nepenthe is a good stop for lunch - terrific views.

J Correa: thank you that was on my to do list but, did not know I could do them both in one day thanks for the help
