Calling New Yorkers! Assistance with choosing hotel in NYU area

Looks like I will be attending a fall conference that will be located at NYU. I've been given the following hotel options and I am hoping that someone might be able to give me a recommendation on them. I've mapped them out and it looks like the Washington Square Hotel is closest (important to me for convenience) but I would consider a different hotel if another was nicer or had some other great characteristic that I should know about. Room size not as much an issue as overall cleanliness and ambiance of room and hotel. Rates between these hotels is not an issue. Also if there are any "stay aways" on the list please let me know that too!

Hotel Wolcott (4 W. 31st Street)
Thirty Thirty Hotel (30 E. 30th Street)
Washington Square Hotel (Waverly Place at Wash Square West)
Best Western Seaport
Hampton Inn Manhattan Chelsea
Hampton Inn Manhattan MSG

Thank you so much Fodorites!

I can't speak for the actual hotels, but yes, Wash Sq is pretty much right there. The location can't be beat, it's a great area in general but I have no idea how the hotel itself is. The attached restaurant (North Square) is quite good. The Seaport option is the furthest.

Check tripadvisor for reviews.

I've stayed at the Hotel Wolcott. It's only adequate. I'm sure the Best Western or one of the Hampton Inn's would be much nicer.

The Hotel Wolcott would only be ok if it's a lot cheaper than the others.

Thanks for your input!

MFNYC - I find that I personally don't get alot out of TripAdvisor reviews. They can sometimes be so wide-ranging. I have much more trust of the posters here; particularly the frequent posters/travelers. I've never been steered wrong yet!

Thanks, Zoom

I've had friends stay at the Washington Square Hotel. the room I saw seemed perfectly fine, nothing special, and I'd prefer the location to that of the others.

The Washington Square is perfectly nice and the location is excellent. It also will have more charm than the others on your list.

Thank you everyone. I will be reserving my room with the Washington Square hotel.
