calling myrtle beach locals
friends of mine are moving to myrtle beach just after christmas. i would like to give them a gift certificate to a wonderful restaurant in the area. i found one called thoroughbreds that i like the look of, but you can't taste the food or experience the service on the web site. so, have any of you eaten there recently or do you know anything about it?
if you know of a better option i'd love to hear about it. thanks. |
Thoroughbreds is a very nice restaurant and they have excellent food.
Also, Frank's in Pawleys Island is excellent but we like to eat outside at Frank's Outback. Wonderful environment and get a table by the fireplace. |
thanks gotravel. frank's looks good too. from the few photos i could find it looks a bit less formal and less expensive. yes?
i see that they both offer creme brulee which is their favorite dessert. anybody else? |
My favorite is the Bonefish Grill. It IS a chain though, but delicious food. Here's the menu from the North MB location - and they have creme brulee -

it seems i may need to go visit these people sooner than later. these menus are making me quite hungry!
thanks starrs. |
The opening page of their website is the gift certificate option :-)
Give a shout out and I may join you. Their martinis are killer and the best lobster I ever had was at one in Florida. I know they would enjoy it! www.bonefishgrill.com |
And the good thing about a Bonefish Grill gift card is that they can also use it at Carrabba's, Outback, Cheeseburger in Paradise or any other OSI restuarants.
I haven't been there, but lots of people like The Sea Captain's House. And, another good group of local chains is the T-Bonz restaurants. |
As far as chain restaurants go, I really like Bonefish, but for something special, I wouldn't pick a chain restaurant. Here's another vote for Frank's in Pawleys Island - I prefer Frank's Outback as well. Like GoTravel said, wonderful environment. Service and food is great.

If they love seafood, point them in the direction of Murrells Inlet, which is just south of Myrtle Beach. My favorite restaurant there is Lee's Inlet Kitchen. It is not anywhere near as nice as Frank's as far as atmosphere goes, but those hush puppies with honey butter - yum yum!

My favorites in this area are The Sea Captain's House in an old house on the ocean in Myrtle Beach. I also like Joe's Bar and Grill for a special occasion as I have had many dinners there. Another favorite is (as mentioned) Bonefish Grill in N. Myrtle Beach. I have been to Thoroghbreds only once some years ago,so I cannot make a helpful comment on it now. It was very nice then.

I've only visited Bonefish Grill once, a week or so ago, here in NC, and while I thought all the food was very good, I thought it was overpriced, compared to other equally good local restaurants and chains. (I don't mind AT ALL spending money for good food, but I am in no hurry to go back there.)

thank you all for the wonderful suggestions. i think i will do the gift certificate for thoroughbreds as it's unlikely they'll be able to afford it on their own for a while with all the moving expenses.
i will print this thread though and give it to them so they'll have some ideas of where to go for some great meals... |
