tinaomnkeybee -

In California in June its quite likely there would be no basketball games (since who knows which 2 teams would be in the playoffs) and almost guranteed there would be no hockey (teams not likely to make playoff finals) - even if playoofs are still being finished (dates for these seasons have not been announced yet).

Baseball is really it - at any $ - in terms of major league team sports.

The NASCAR race is one of the few road courses on the circuit & is right across from Roche Winery (I think). Right as you turn North to head into Sonoma. I'm not a huge NASCAR fan (& I live in CLT) but I would pay to see one of the road course races.

NASCAR's top Nextel Cup series also visit California Speedway - a two-mile oval in southern California - twice a year. This year it's February and September, but it may change.

[There's also the lower-level NASCAR West series with many races in California at various tracks. You won't see big names here, mostly young guns, but tickets will be cheaper.]

The open-wheeled ChampCar (CART) series run the popular Long Beach Grandprix (April this year), and the new street circuit in San Jose (July). Dates and venues can change.

The competing open-wheeled series, the Indy Racing League (IRL) used to run ovals only, but now goes to Infineon on August.

The US Rally Championship has the Rim of the World Rally in Lancaster, CA. This year, it's in April.

So, no top-billing professional races in June in CA, unfortunately.

MLS - Major League Soccer -runs from April to November. In California, you got your L.A. Galaxy and Club Deportivo Chivas USA, also in L.A. Landon Donovan plays for the Galaxy, and he is one of the best American players.

And as a hockey fan I can tell you that your chances for seeing NHL hockey in California in June are pretty slim, even if the Ducks did just sign Chris Pronger. But I digress...

There is also minor league women's soccer, the USL's W-League and the competing WPSL.

Arena Football might still be on.

The San Jose Saber Cats and the LA Avengers could be contenders.

If not, there is always Beach Volleyball in and around Venice Beach.

Did I already tell you to forget those Lakers and Clippers in June?
