Callaway gardens - ga
I am reading very mixed opinions about the gardens and the accomodations. May be in the area late April 2008 and wonder if anyone has been there recently and their thoughts.
thanks |
We were in Columbus for a family event and drove up there so we didn't stay at CG but I thought the gardens were a worthwhile site. We spent about half a day there, toured parts of the gardens and had a nice lunch at an old inn on the property then headed back to Columbus. I guess it depends on how into that kind of attraction you are.

Late April might be too late for the azaleas (locals, help me out. It's been a long time since I lived in GA). There used to be a wonderful butterfly garden there. The chapel on the grounds is interesting. We enjoyed our two summer trips there. It was a long time ago, but I can only think that things have gotten better, not worse.

Callaway is great! We have been there and stayed overnite on many occasions. Lots of things to do. A great place to rent bikes, golf, tennis, lots of walking trails, many different gardens, butterfly exhibits. I would go there in a heartbeat! Have fun! And dont hesitate.

We were there in September a year ago. At that point there wasn't much blooming in the gardens, but we still enjoyed the lakes and hiking paths. My son had finished up training at Ft Benning, and Callaway was a nice relaxing change of pace for him. The section we were staying in (Southern Pine?) showed its age a bit, but not badly. I would go there again if we were in the area.
