california N. coast

i will be completeing a 10 day trip to SF, Yos., and Napa in early October, My last day in california involves checking out of napa (after 3 nights) in early morning and not having to be back to San fran airport until about 8pm, since I have all day, any recommendations?Should I tour russian river? sonoma? pacific coast (jenner, bodega)? Dont't mind doing a little extra driving if i can do or see natural splendor!! and would this be time efficient? Thanks!

You should absolutely visit Muir woods very close to Sonoma and on the coast. Paul

Muir Woods, the top of Mt. Tamalpais and Point Reyes if you have the time for the latter. That will be a full day.

I was thinking driving up on sonoma valley and then coming out to coast line along russian river (I think), then finding things to do as i drive down the coast back to SFO?

You can do what you suggest, but since you will have already seen some of the wine country in Napa, it would be more efficient in terms of the varietyof sights to stick to Point Reyes and the Mt. Tam area.

See Point Reyes then drive back down Highway 1 to SF. You can either drive down from Jenner, or, if you are short on time, go from Napa to Petaluma to Point Reyes (this last part is a very pretty drive). The coastal drive is gorgeous but much more time consuming than it appears on the map so plan accordingly.
