California in April
I’m a bit in doubt planning a 10 days trip arriving Los Angeles on April 19. and returning from San Francisco on April 29. We want to include Yosemite. It’s only a California trip. Is it to early for Yosemite? And where to stay? 15 years ago we stayed in Curry Village canvas tent. Where to stay after arriving LAX at noon before heading to Yosemite? Thank you:-) Jesper

I wouldn't be concerned about weather at that time, but Easter is April 20, 2025. Many schools here will be on spring break which means many families will be traveling at that time. You should investigate lodging availability in Yosemite ASAP. "Where" to stay depends on availability and your budget. Fifteen years ago, the CV tent cabins were a great budget option. They're now about $200 per night.
Unless you have some specific sightseeing plans after landing in L.A., I'd rent the car and drive an hour or so to get out of the Greater L.A. area and skip the Easter morning traffic. Perhaps stay the night in Santa Clarita. |
Late April is usually fantastic for Yosemite Valley (only the Valley because the back country, Tioga Pass and Glacier Point will be closed)
Nail down your accommodations in Yosemite first and then build the rest of your itinerary around that. First try for inside the Valley at Yosemite Lodge at the Falls, (or depending on budget - The Ahwahnee or Curry Village). If it is booked up, then the only other property I'd consider is Yosemite View Lodge just outside the west gate at El Portal. his is a very large hotel with pools and several bldgs along the Merced rive and just a few minutes from the Valley floor. Most other properties (even 'inside the park') will be an hour or more drive from Yosemite Valley. |
