California: Eureka!
I have a part day to spend here and am hoping for some local don't miss suggestions. I have from 11a to 3pm open and want to make good use of the time. Thanks! Also to see about the best place for lunch!

Does it have to be IN Eureka? Will you have a car?
If so, my choices would be either Samoa (Samoa Cookhouse) - or Ferndale (several good food choices and a lovely place) Eureka to Ferndale is about a 30min drive. Samoa is like a 10 minute drive from central Eureka. |
You could do a tour of some of the old homes -both Eureka and Ferndale have them-
We ate lunch in Ferndale at a great place but if you only have part of a day in Eureka you may not want to do more driving |
Had lunch at the Samoa Cookhouse a couple of years ago, found it interesting but the food was nothing special. Enjoyed thge Lost Coast Brewery & Cafe, but again it was a couple of years ago.
|
I can't believe the Samoa Cookhouse is still open - I think we ate there 35 years ago!
|
35 years is NUTHIN . . . The place opened 120 years ago :)
|
Lost Coast Brewery would be on my list - ok, it IS on my list. We are headed up there later this month :)
|
I am going up that way in a couple weeks, and Samoa Cookhouse is on my list. Also want to try the Eel River Brewing company in Fortuna, 18 miles south of Eureka. May try Lost Coast Brewery too! Looking for places to eat in Ferndale myself.

I like Curley's Grill in Ferndale -- been there three times and every dish has been good to terrific.
|
Thanks Janis, I saw Curley's in the AAA tourbook. Thanks for the rec!
