California at the end of March

We are considering going to California at the end of March, but are concerned about the weather and if it's the right season to go. What do you think about San Francisco, Yosemite, Big Sur/Carmel, Santa Barbara? Thanks so much.

With the crazy weather it is very hard to predict. Could be rain everywhere - at least that is what we Californians are hoping for since we are in a drought.Big Sur/Carmel foggy perhaps but still amazing scenery Could be snow in Yosemite depending on where you go. Might be nice like today 66 degrees and blue skies (darn it!) Santa Barbara more than likely will have the best weather just because it is further south. It is a crap shoot but anytime you come, you will enjoy it, just dress appropriately. I find it amazing when I see tourists in June wearing shorts, when that is perhaps one of our coldest season (San Francisco that is) check weather.com for 10 day forecast before packing...Hope you make it up to Muir Woods and perhaps Sonoma for beautiful scenery.

Shar is correct. It could still be very rainy/ snowing at Yosemite, as it will still, technically be our rainy season.

We will try to make it to Muir Woods or at least to Henry Cowell to see the redwoods. Hopefully with Ok weather :)

We are traveling with our kids ages 8, 10 and 12. Are there any specific activities you would recommend? We are pretty outdoorsy and also enjoy good food... any place that is worth a splurge to either eat or stay?

Ztrip - the coastal redwoods are different from the giant redwoods in Yosemite. Different species FYI. Plenty to do in SF and Monterey areas for a week.
