Taking a trip to California on October 8 for seven days with my two 25, 27 year old daughters. We want to book a comprehensive bus tour of LA, if anyone can recommend a good one.
The last two nights of the trip, we are staying in Huntington. We have no other definite plans.
It is our first trip to LA. if possible, we wanted to spend the least possible $ for clean accommodations with private shower. $100 -$150 a night if possible, to share a room.
i have read a few tour books, but so far no itinerary.

We are flying into LA airport. i wish we flew in from San Fransico and rented a car to drive down the coast.

open to all suggestions, and we can cancel plans in Huntington if there are better ways to plan the trip.

By Huntington do you mean Huntington Beach?

And are you renting a car for 7 days or planning to use the bus and metro system?

we are renting a car. we are trying to decide between staying at an airbnb condo in venice or "Air" in Venice hotel on October 8-10. October 9, we want to take a bus tour of LA, if you can recommend one. After reading some reviews, we are thinking of staying in Santa Monica instead, it seemed that it might be unsafe at night to walk around with drugs and homeless people. Where do you think would be best to stay, to tour LA and Beach towns?

October 10-12, we were going to stay in San Diego, not sure where. Just discovered a Bed and Breakfast on a Yacht, thought that might be fun. Yes, the last 2 days at Huntington Beach.

Interests: Getty Villa, Celebritiy sightings- think my daughters would love that,beaches, water activities if the weather is hot enough,.

Santa Monica is very nice but think you will have a hard time finding something in your price range (which is very low for LA).
Maybe take a look at the Sea View Inn in Manhattan Beach, one block from the beach.

That's unrealistic for any major city for three adults in a room.

YOu can't stay in Santa Monica for $150 for a triple room, but you can find places that price in some parts of LA, of course (many chain hotels have 2 queen beds), if 2 of you can share a queen. I'm not sure if the comment about drugs and homeless people was about Santa Monica or where. It is true they have a large homeless population, but it's not skid row. Not even sure you can afford skid row on that budget, though. If there is a Venice hotel at that rate, it probably will be pretty dicey.

"Air" is a rental property. If someone is renting their apt out in that place for $150, that would be fine. Sure there are homeless and druggies, but it's almost right on the boardwalk at Rose Ave, I wouldn't worry about that part of it. as there will be all kinds of people around. Now I checked that website and they are renting out short-term apts, I saw they had one for only $290 a night to suit 3 people. That's not bad, but it obviously isn't close to your $100-150 budget, so not sure what you mean.

On the Westside, you could stay at the Travelodge, Sheraton 4 points or Courtyard for that price, probably. there are some other hotels like that where you could stay for that price in the Fairfax or HOllywood area, also. booking.com shows a 1 BR apt in the Miracle Mile area (called Ruby Luxury Apt), for just under $150 a night, and that is a very central location and with 2 adult daughters with you, that might be a good idea to have that extra space. It's right near the COunty Art Museum, so that's a good location. People just have to get over this obsession with the beach in LA, if you want to save money.

Hi - I live in San Diego. Do you have a link for this B&B on a yacht? I'd like to see where it's located. Some areas are better than others. If not, do you have it's name?

We recently saw a B&B on a sail boat over by Humphries Elizzie - we were checking out marinias it was very pricey in our opinion for what it was. (it was like 300.00 a night)

Not far from Humphrey's (but not on Shelter Island) have a look at Holiday Inn Bayside, Best Western Yacht Harbor.

You might even look in Little Italy at BW Plus Bayside and La Pensione (which is usually around $100 per night.)
