Calif to Oregon

We will be traveling by car from Los Angeles area of Calif towards Oregon.
What areas of interest are there along the way that we would not want to miss in our travels?

What month? I-5 or coastal? To get to Crater Lake you have to enter through the south entrance until July. What part of Oregon do you want to visit?

If you want to drive up the coast, here are pictures that might give you some ideas:

Be aware that hwy 1 is closed or only partially opened on the Big Sur coast.

[IN THE CENTRAL CALIFORNIA AREA]
IS CLOSED 3.2 MI SOUTH OF GORDA (MONTEREY CO) - DUE TO A LAND SLIDE
- MOTORISTS ARE ADVISED TO USE AN ALTERNATE ROUTE

1-WAY CONTROLLED TRAFFIC 13.7 MI NORTH OF BIG SUR STATE PARK
/AT ROCKY CREEK/ (MONTEREY CO) - DUE TO A SLIP-OUT

Check with CalTrans before you decide to follow the coastal route in that area.

Becasue of the Highway 1 closures as noted above, consider 101 though Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo and Paso Robles to Monterey area. Great opportunities for wine tasting along or near the 101 from Buelleton north to Monterey.
Santa Cruz, then though SF to Marin County abnd cath Highway 1 all the way (if you have time) to the other side of Fort Bragg where you rejoin 101. Just north of Cresent City take the road to Grants Pass (199).
Lots of CA history at the missions along 101 and at Fort Ross further north.
Side trips possible to Napa/Sonoma wine country.
Redwood state and national parks.

You need to give a more info before we can really help you. LA to the Oregon border is a very VERY long way w/ literally hundreds of things to see/do. How many days do you have? What month? What is the "we" -- a couple, family w/ small kids, or ??

What sorts of things you want to see/do - mountains? ocean? redwoods? cities like San Francisco or would you rather stay away from cities? are you active and want to hike, or do you want mostly car sightseeing? Are you into wine/vineyards?

But mainly first of all we definitely need to know how long and when . . .
