Caesar's Palace Advice, Please?

What does a newcomer need to know before booking a room for one night, first time ever in Las Vegas, traveling with teenage son?

Pumpy Apr 3rd, 2005 05:15 PM

Not sure what you're asking. Do you have concerns about the hotel, Vegas, or?

While Vegas is not the most kid friendly city, there is certainly plenty of things to keep a teenager occupied. Here's a few suggestion: 1. Ride the roller coaster at NY NY Hotel, 2. Catch a magic show or one of the Cirque shows O / Mystere 3. At night go to the top of the mini Eiffel Tower (Paris hotel) and watch / listen to the water show of Belagio Hotel.

Enjoy!

Those are good questions. I should provide more info. We're in L.V. for one night. We want to be able to take a swim, walk around, see what's going on, have a 24 hour Vegas experience. Caesars Palace was recommended for location, style. But I don't know one hotel from the next in L.V.

Pumpy Apr 3rd, 2005 06:50 PM

Caeser's is a good hotel w/ good location. Since you're only there for the day, I'd strongly suggest your rent a car. A drive to downtown / old Vegas for the Freemont experience is another suggestion. Believe me, the time will fly by!

make sure you ask for a room in the new tower.

Thank you. Do any of these hotels have rooms that are not in highrise towers? Is it possible to be on lower floors?

Also, Fodors recommends the Motel 6. I'm game. Do you know anything about it?

tom42 Apr 4th, 2005 05:11 AM

Have you thought about what you want to spend? Typically, people thinking about staying at Caesar's Palace aren't also considering the Motel 6 - these hotels are on the opposite ends of the spectrum.

Caesar's rooms are all in towers but you can request a room on a low floor.

money is not the issue in L.V., because most of the hotels seem to offer a range of rates. i got interested in the motel 6 because it was highly recommended by fodors on this website. that's all. i've never stayed in a motel 6. that's why i'm asking. i wondered if it was one of those quirky wonderful finds. sounds like it's not.

If you want the full Vegas experience, DON'T stay at the Motel 6. Caesar's is in a great location--mid strip and close to all the fun things he/she will enjoy seeing. Just warn your teen ahead of time about the porn peddlers that line the strip--they can be 'in your face,' even with kids.

weimer Apr 4th, 2005 06:34 AM

The Motel 6 in Vegas is fine but it's not in the same league as the big hotels on the strip, like Ceasers.

If you want to book a show like Cirque, I would reccomend doing that prior to arrival (same goes for dinner at the nicer establishments). There is a ton to see and do in Vegas. With your comments on checking out the pool and walking around to the other hotels, I think you will find the day disapears quickly.

Have fun.

this is all very helpful. is caesar's a better choice than, say, mandalay, or venetian or treasure island. my 13 yr old and i discussed treasure island, but we're worried it will feel like being trapped in pirates of the caribbean.
we're such novices on this stop!

jlm_mi Apr 4th, 2005 06:45 AM

TI feels nothing like being trapped in anything to do with Pirates. In fact, the only thing pirate-related about the place is the pirate show out front.

Caesar's Palace is very centrally located on the strip. I posted this in another of your threads, but will include it here as well:

www.vegas.com/map.html

Check it out and you can see where everything is.

One day in Vegas is really not much. I think you need to pick the things that you're interested in doing, then decide which hotel would be most centrally located to those things.

Mandalay Bay is very far south, so not a good choice for a one-day trip in my opinion, unless you just plan to stay at the hotel. Venetial and TI are a bit north of the center of the strip, but certainly not bad locations.

Again, what do you want to do in your one day there? And what are you looking for in a hotel?

horizon Apr 4th, 2005 06:48 AM

yes, i used that link. thank you. it's simple: we're driving cross country round trip, and we hit L.V. for one night after L.A. and before grand canyon. i assume we'll arrive lunchtime, depart after breakfast. we're just checking it out and if we like it we'll come back for a longer visit via airplane someday. so caesar's sounds like the right choice. it's your basic one day in vegas gig.

rjw_lgb_ca Apr 4th, 2005 07:23 AM

I'm just curious-- what is your proposed route for this cross-country trip? I mean, LA is on the West Coast, and Vegas is well inland (five to six hours by car).... Sounds like a little bit of looping to me, although it might make for a very interesting itinerary.

Stay with the Caesars choice. If the price is too much for you try: Monte Carlo, Ballys, Aladdin or Flamingo. Bally's and Flamingo are essentially across the strip from Caesars. Since your time is short, stick with the strip only. Save downtown and off strip properties for another time. I like the idea of wandering South toward NYNY for the roller coaster and they have an ESPNzone restaurant there that is a great lunch place for a teenage boy. On the way you can stop in at places that look interesting to you. From NYNY, cross the strip to see MGM just for the size and the Lion habitat. Continue North and wander into the Aladdin's shopping mall which will give you some AC and fun stuff to see. Carry on to the Ballys/Paris properties. Do the Eiffel tower (I prefer it at night) and of course the Bellagio fountains across the street. Don't forget the Forum shops right at Caesars but time it so you can enjoy the free animatronics shows in the mall. If you happen to be around, the volcano at Mirage is fun at night too. If you are wanting to do a show, I would recommend Mystere at Treasure Island or for less money, one of the magic shows on the strip.

That should give you a good flavor in one day but be sure to get out after dark. Sounds like a great trip!

Another thing-- I don't think Fodor's "recommends" the Motel 6 on this website-- they just note that there is one and it is a lodging option in Vegas. It's not a good option IMHO. Stay at Caesar's!

We spent a couple of days in Las VEgas last summer with our two daughters, then 13 and 11 and they totally loved it! We stayed at the MGM, which was a great location and had a nice pool as well. If Caesar's is a choice, I'd definately stay there. Our kids LOVED the ambiance of that place. Don't miss the Fremont Street Experience. Very cool and the kids were totally captivated by it. We spent a lot of time just walking from hotel to hotel to see everything. They loved Excalibur and Luxor for decor, loved the light show at Bellagio. The pirate show at TI was a bit too adult/sexy in nature. Thumbs up for NYNY and the arcade there...if your son likes games and action and rides, he'll love it. M&M world was great fun as well as the Coca Cola store. The Aladdin and Venetian were both big hits as well. I have to say I was totally surprized at how much our kids really liked Vegas. We also went to the Grand Canyon and Sedona on that trip and when asked what their favorite part of the vacation was, its always, hands down, Las Vegas!!! Go figure!!! Have a great time!

Just be aware that topless bathing is allowed at the pool at CP!
