Cabs and Credit Cards

Is is safe to assume these days that all cabs in all major cities accept credit cards? Portland, Oregon, is my next destination, but I'm wondering in general...?

It is not safe to assume. Many major cities are still cash only. You should modify your posting to include Portland so that a local or regular visitor will pick up the question.

I wouldn't assume that, either.

No - rules differ city by city - and even in places where cabs are "required" to offer CC some drivers have units that are "not working" -esp for smaller fares.

I always assume I will have to pay cash for a cab anywhere.

No no no no no.

Assume cash, bring cash.

Fourth largest city in America (by population) is Houston and few of its cabs take cards.
