Cable TV and internet in NYC
Hi!
I was wondering if you get any channels in NYC without ordering cable.....i.e. the very basic channels?? Even just 3-4 channels? I live around low w. 60's if that makes any difference in a 6-floor building. If not, who has the cheapest cable TV subscription? Secondly, any ideas for cheap cable internet in NYC? I noticed Earthlink has a $19.99 special for 3 months and then it goes up (not sure how much). Any others? I just don't want to use AOL! Thanks, gtrekker2003 |
You can get several basic stations without cable--2(CBS), 4 (NBC), 5 (Fox), 7 (ABC), 9 (WB), 11 (UPN) and 13 (PBS). (9 and 11 could be reversed; I forget which is which.)

Find out if your building is wired to accept RCN cable, I believe it's less expensive than Time Warner.

If you want cable internet, I know here in NJ it costs me about $45.
My Comcast TV basic service (very basic) is about $12.00. I would think it would be very similar in NY. Call and find out. ((b)) |
The problem with Manhattan is that there are so many tall buildings interfering with signals that it is sometimes difficult to get even the regular broadcast stations when you are in a low-rise (anything under 10 stories). Or you may get the stations with a lot of static. So you really must have either cable or dish.
Cable is very inexpensive for basic service - less than $30 per month - and not much more if you want the non-premium channels - I think less than $35 per month for several hundred channels. Don;t know the details on dish - have friends who have dish problems every time it rains - so I won;t even consider it. |
