Cable Car question. Cost and does a pass exist?

I have a 2001 San Sanfrancisco travel book and it mentions $2 for the cable ride. Is this still the current rate? Are you given any transfers to use throughout the day? Does a multi pass exist other than the Citypass. Since we will only be in San Francisco for 4 days and only plan to visit the Exploratorium I don't think the citypass will do me much good. My old book mentions the citypass entitles you to 7 day unlimited cable rides and 50% of 24 of the city's top attractions but the citypass.com website only offers a total of six attractions including the cable cars. Am I missing something or has citypass reduced the number of attractions?

Do a google search on San Francisco Citypass. it'll bring up links to the SF Visitor's Center, and information about the pass...

Roosterlady,<BR><BR>The fare for Cable cars is still $2, and you will neither receive a transfer from that ride, not can you use one to pay for it. (A transfer is good for 90 minutes from the time it was issued.)<BR><BR>You might want to look into 3 day PASSPORTS for your family. These are much cheaper than the CityPass.<BR><BR>Here is a website for more info:<BR><BR>http://www.sfmuni.com/fares/fareinfo.htm#passports

The cable cars are indeed $2.<BR><BR>I forgot how much a pass cost. Some of the bus shelters have maps with fare information.<BR><BR>Transfers are good for at least 90 minutes and can be used for any route, including returning in the opposite direction. The bus only costs $1 ($1.25 soon). So, it may be cheaper to pay for each ride. I think that this is true for most people who use the 3 day pass. The 10 and 5 day passes are cheaper per day.

http://www.sfmuni.com/fares/fareinfo.htm#monthly<BR><BR>Weekly pass is $9, unlimited ride on all MUNI lines, additional $1 for a cable car ride, does NOT include any museum admission, but some museums give you discount for riding MUNI, like the Legion of Honor.<BR><BR>https://www.sfvisitor.org/cgi-bin/webc.exe/st_main.html?catid=5&amp;sid=3cQD6S0lOHLb1-d-08103144705.55<BR>Visitors bureau sells 3-day passes for $10 and 7-day passses for $15, not sure what's included.

The cable car museum sells cable car passes. Don't know what they cost. Also, check with your hotel. $2 is the current rate.

This may sound strange, but the cable car guys have never asked me to pay. <BR><BR>I have ridden on them several times (even when empty - only 5 people on) and I have never had to pay. I always have my money out, but then I get to put it right back! Weird!

Was in SF about 3 weeks ago: 6 Dollars for daily pass (includes MUNI but doesn´t BART), 3 day pass costs $10.
