Cabin's at lake shasta

We are going to lake shasta/redwoods and need ideas on cabins for both areas. My first thought was to stay on a house boat at lake shasta but with kids i think a cabin next to the lake will be better for us. If you can help me out that would be great. THanks. Arizona

We have not rented cabins at the lake. Many of them we have seen look kind of rundown. We have stayed nearby in Castle Crags in a hotel that is actually train cars. There is only one and it has a great hot tub.
We usually go to Dunsmuir. The chamber of commerce has a list of rentals in both areas. Our family had a cabin near the Dunsmuir Cabins (916)235-2721. The Sacramento River is right down the canyon and there is a large city pool and ballpark nearby. We know people who come to the cabins year after year for fishing. If you are a boater it is a little bit of a distance to the Lake though. Don't miss the caverns tour. The boat ride over is half the fun, the bus ride scares you to death, and the tour is corny, but we love it.
I will rummage around this weekend and try to give you some more specifics....

Hello again!since we usually are towing a boat we have visited this place and it seems nicer than many...Bridge Bay Resort 10300 Bridge Bay Road, Redding (916) 275-3021 Full Service Mareina, Ramp, Boat & Jet Ski Rentals, Motel,Restaurant,Lounge,General Store, Bait & Tackle,Swimming Pool.

Other places to investigate:
Antlers Resort (800) 238-3924.

I think your Houseboat idea might be a better choice...They really can be expensive these days though! There is a great resource we use called Recreation Lakes (of California). It is one of a series and may be helpful to you. Authors are Dirksen & Reeves ISBN 0-943798-16-7.Have a great trip!!

Use an excellent Search Engine called "Google."

http://www.google.com

type in search words, such as:

lake shasta vacation rentals

and

lake shasta houseboat rentals

I'm sure some websites will pop up for you to investigate.

Good luck!
