cab vs. rental car price
I will be going on a cruise next Sunday and currently have a car reserved for 1 day when we get back from the cruise. We are flying in on Saturday and flying out on the following Monday, after the cruise. We are cruising out of Ft. Lauderdale and are staying in Hollywood, through Hotwire, the night before and 1 day after the cruise. We were planning on taking a taxi from the airport to the hotel, from the hotel to the cruise port, and from the cruise port back to the airport to pick up our car after the cruise. Does anyone know how much taxi fare is? Would it be more economical to rent a car from the beginning and pay for parking at the cruise port for the week? Please help!

Call your hotel and check to see if they allow parking for the cruise duration. Alot of hotels include this perk for free or very low cost since many of their guests are cruising and have the same dilemna. Also, I don't know the taxi fare, but FLL is very close (within ten minutes) to the port. Have a great time!

If you decide on the car rental, check with EZ Car Rental - we're renting a mid-size car from their facility in Miami the first week of April and the cost is only 17.73 a day. We're rented with them before in Ft. Lauderdale and Orlando and been very happy. Enjoy the vacation!

Lisa14,
Are you flying into Ft Lauderdale? If so, the cabs will be the reasonable option. If you are flying into Miami, renting a car would be the chaeper option. |
I am flying in to Ft. Lauderdale, but was wondering what the parking fee for the cruise port is, just in case there is a parking fee at the hotel. Does anyone know?

Lisa, do you know about google.com? I put in "port everglades" and quickly found your answer: $12/day.
Here's the website I was directed to: http://www.co.broward.fl.us/poi01400.htm |
First of all, have you eliminated airport shuttles between airport and your hotel? Although many hotels do not have their own shuttle anymore, there are shuttle services that can take you back and forth. A taxi may be cheaper, or the shuttle may be cheaper. Contact your hotel and inquire. They usually know. The other part of your question - would it be cheaper to rent the car AND park it for a week, as opposed to paying for a cab? I just cannot imagine that renting a car for a week of non-use would be more economical.
