Cab to Ground Zero
My wife and I have a 10 hour layover at JFK airport in New York, and wish to view ground zero. What is the cost of a taxi cab from JFK to lower Manhattan?
|
The standard fare from JFK to Manhattan is $35
|
HOWEVER, The fare BACK to JFK can be anywhere from 35 $ to 50$.
In fact, ours was 43$ plus tip from Waldorf to JFK at 3;00PM on aSaturday..
|
If you use a car service you will pay a flat fee in either direction and it is usually about the same as a taxi.
|
Save you money! Take the subway from JFK right to the WTC site. The A/C lines run from JFK take them until you get to Chambers St. This will cost you and your wife $1.50 each way for a grand total of $6.00 which sure beats the $100 or so a cab to and fro would cost you. When you arrive at JFK just ask anyone and they will be happy to tell you the best way to the subway line.
|
Not that simple! You have to take a shuttle bus from the airport to the subway. LONG subway ride. Fodors recommends allowing two hours each way!

Best best (as explained above)

-Take a fixed fare yellow cab from JFK to anywhere in Manhattan for $35 plus toll plus tip = approx $50

Immediately call a car service to reserve a trip back (or you could even do this before you leave home, if you want) Cost will be about the same (again, factor in the toll and tip) It will definitely cost more to get a cab on your return as there is no fixed fare, plus catching a cab in NY at certain times of the day and certain locations is difficult and frustrating. Make sure you know you have a way back

Subways are cheap, but by the time you allow an hour and a half in each direction, plus the time you have to be in the airport before departure (you still have to wait on security lines which could be anywhere form 10 minutes to over an hour), you've lost most of your layover time.
