Cab from Penn Station to Upper West Side

In a few weeks on a Sunday we'll be seeing a show at the Beacon Theatre. We are hoping to book a room at either the Lucerne Hotel, The Empire Hotel, or On the Ave Hotel. We'll be arriving by train at Penn Station. Would anyone know approx. how much a cab would be from Penn Station to one of these hotels on the upper West Side? Any other suggestions for a hotel would be greatly appreciated. We would like to spend between $230 and $300 for a one-night stay. Thank you!!!

Hopstop has a cab calculator.

Thank you so much for you quick reply. I looked at that web site that you recommended, and that answered my question completely!

If you don't find anything at the hotels you mention, try the Excelsior. http://www.excelsiorhotelny.com/index.asp

quikbook.com might have prices for one of the hotels you're considering that are better than the hotels' own websites. The Beacon hotel is closest to the Beacon theater (but I assume you know that).

The Empire Hotel is not very close to the Beacon theater nor is it that great imo. If you're considering that and don't mind a small room, 6 Columbus is another hotel in that area that's often available on quikbook for one of their pod rooms (really really small) for a great rate.

The truth is you could stay almost anywhere in midtown west or the upper west side and be fine for getting to/from the Beacon theater. Maybe you should consider bidding on Pricleine for a room for the 1 night if there are only 2 of you and you can share a bed.

A cab will probably cost you $10-$15 based on traffic

Agree Empire does not get good reviews and isn't right in the neighborhood, as Lucerne, On the Ave, Beacon and Excelsior are.

Forget taking a cab.
Buy a metrocard--a 7-day is $25. This will allow you unlimited rides on the bus or subway. The buses in NYC do not take dollar bills/paper money, you would need to have exact change in coins.
Penn Station is very well served by public transportation.
Penn Station is on the West Side. Take the uptown # 2,(towards 241 St) #3 (towards 148 Lenox) express train to 72 St. (Beacon Theatre) or 96 Street. This is the red line, but NYC trains are not color-coded on the platforms. Take the #1 uptown train (towards 242 St) to 66(Lincoln Center), 79 St. or 86 Street, which are local stops on the "red" line which runs on Broadway. You can also take the "blue" line uptown "C" train which runs local on Eighth Avenue, which becomes Central Park West. Get off at 72 St. (2 blocks east of Broadway--walk away from Central Park, 81st (Museum of Natural History), 86 Street, 96 Street. Do not take the uptown "A" or the downtown or uptown "E" train.

cleslie, they're staying in New York for one night. A 7-day metrocard, as great as it is for a 4-7 day or longer stay, would hardly be worth it for one subway ride!
