bypassing ads down side test
Just wondering if 'enter, enter, enter' will bypass the annoying ad on the side. |
Not enough enters. Maybe 40 or 50 would work.
|
You can bypass the ads all you want, but you will still have condensed text. We must accept what has been done :(
|
Phooey. Well I really, really hate it.
|
Would someone enlighten me on this ad and small text deal? I don't see anything other than that orange-brown and tan banner at the top that says
Destinations, Hotels, ... And a big Fodor's box in black and white. |
I feel your pain, April.
|
If you people would just try Firefox, you wouldn't be complaining so much.
|
I don't see condensed text either. It looks like it always did.
Must be Firefox or Norton. |
I don't have Firefox, but do have Norton, which must be the reason I don't see the ads you're talking about.
I disabled the Norton, and ickkkk the ads appeared. Fortunately I could turn them back off again. |
this is somewhat gratuitous, but I just installed the new version of Firefox, 1.0.3. It is much faster than the one I have been using.
I like it, so far. But let's wait a few weeks before pronouncing final judgment. |
And as I said on another thread, I do have Norton and do not get any ads on all the other websites. So WHY do I get then on Fodor's.
I wonder if the Fodor's editors are reading all our gripes today and having a jolly old time laughing about it? |
You're lucky to not see it, Bob. On the right side is an ad in a vertical bar of white space which pushes the text over to the left. Some ads flash annoyingly and if your mouse happens to pass over the wrong place, the ad expands over some of the text - that is, the text we come here to read. Brilliant, Fodors, just brilliant.

LoveItaly
I too have Norton's and do not have pop up ad's anyplace except here on Fodors. |
I applaud the ads. Fodors has a right to gain revenue on this site at our expense. WE DO NOT own this site, they do and we enjoy it. Ease up.
|
There are several versions of Norton. I've got Norton Internet Security ($$$) on one of our computers and get none of these Fodors ads. The other one doesn't have Norton and gets them. I am buying a new Norton IS for that computer, needless to say. Those ads are terribly annoying.
|
I do remember when I renewed my Norton subcription that I took the cheaper of the two that was offered. I suppose if I had paid the more expensive I wouldn't be getting these. Next time I won't be so cheap....I guess you really do get what you pay for!
|
Those of you who are not getting the ads, is the text still compressed into a tight column?
|
It's Fodor's conspiracy against me. ME. Being at work I can't install anything. And whatever our technology department has - it's not enough to block that obnoxious annoying blinking thing on the right. Oh, the joys of WWW!
|
I use MSIE and Firefox, and on both, with no firewall, anti-virus, or pop-up stopper ... I see no ads but the area where all the user comments are is now about in the middle 30% of the page, where they used to consume the right 70%.
I'm not going to mention what other "tweeks" I have on my machine, as I'm sure that as we discuss them, Fodors is (rightfully) looking into how they can overcome anything we do to avoid them. Therefore, I think it fruitless to continue the discussions. Or you could use a text-only browser like lynx ... however with that I cannot reply or post new messages. Would anyone be willing to pay for a "commercial free Fodors"? Probably not, so I'm sure the ads will continue. |
Thanks cd, guess it is good to know I am not the only one with the "cheap" Norton's, LOL. Oh well, I am not going to pay more money so I will learn to live with the ads, sigh.
