Buying a Ukulele on Big Island

My husband and I are going to the Big Island in December. We are music buffs and have an ever expanding collection of instruments. We would like to buy a Hawaiian made Ukulele while we are on the Big Island. We will be circling the island. Any suggestions for a good place to buy one?

You might want to check with your concierge on where the nearest music store is so you can view the different brands. as far as I know, the ukulele makers do not retail their instruments themselves. the best known brands are Kamaka, Koaloha, and (I think) Leolani.

YES!! A great little shop on Ponahawai St in Hilo. Scottish owner really knows his biz.

He also turned us on the the best sushi we've ever had, at the humble Ocean Sushi Deli in downtown Hilo.

Sunny day in Hilo, his shop, the sushi... Big Island Trifecta.
