Buying a Baby Stroller in NYC
 

Hi, Ive already posted this message but now I cant find it. I'm travelling to NYC in the Fall & need to buy a stroller for my 2y.o. Where do I go in Manhattan to make such a purchase or is there a secondhand baby equipment store that I might find a good deal.Appreciate your help and suggestions.

The best place to purchase anything for a baby is at BUY BUY BABY. Located on 7th Ave. at either 26th or 27th Street. The store will blow your mind. Everything from the inexpensive folding umbrella models to the very expensive Rolls Royces of strollers


At 23rd and 6th Ave. is the Burlington Coat Factory and they also have a huge baby department.

I read your earlier post on this topic and saw that you are flying. Personally, I suggest buying the stroller before you leave so you can use it with your 2yo. in the airport. You don't need to haul it on the plane; just gate check it.

If for some reason you need to buy it there and just need a cheapie that you'll leave there at the end of the trip.... there's K-Mart store at 34th and 7th next to Madison Square Garden and Penn Station. They're probably as cheap as anyplace in NYC to buy a stroller and conveniently located.

If your 2 year old is small to average size, you can get away with an umbrella stroller - easy to fold up, great for travel, will even fit down aisle of plane. Also relatively cheap. You might reconsider having one of these for airport navigation - chasing a 2 year old while hauling luggage and trying to find your gate is not fun. Also good for streets of a city since you can fold it up when inside places like restaurants. More considerate of pedestrians than those big SUS (sports utility strollers)

Many many thanks to all replies, I can just picture the 2 yo having a great time wandering at the Airport. Great advice I'll probably just buy a cheap one in Ireland before we take the trip & maybe buy a stronger one in NYC that will enable my 7 & 5 yo boys to periodically rest from all the walking.
Can anyone please suggest a Brand name for a strong, neat, lightweight & easyfolding Stroller or can all of the above be combined and fit onto 4 wheels. Am I looking for the impossible. Again many thanks for your replies

As far as name brand goes it's McClaren or Pliko (top of the line, sturdy, fold up). Then you've got Gerber and so on. You should be able to find any of the brands in the list of places in the other posts. Good luck.

There is a huge new Toys R Us in the Times Square area. Your 2 year old will be fasinated with the inside. There is even a working ferris wheel inside. A well-known brand in the States is Graco.

McClaren is the best stroller for your needs. It's a british stroller so it should be easy for you to find in Ireland.

I have had all different brand strollers, and Maclaren is the best by far. It is sturdy, lightweight and easy to maneuver. They also make a double stroller. However, Maclaren is very expensive. If you want a cheapie double stroller, I know Kolcraft makes a double umbrella stroller.

Just back from our trip and we had the best time, it was wonderful seeing NYC through the eyes of a child, The 7 & 5 year old boys were completely blown away by the whole experience. I got some great replies to my question, very wise advise from Ilisa & Gail to bring a fold up umbrella stroller to the Airport, don't know how we would have managed without it. On our first day in NYC we ended up in Toys R Us (Donabee, Great Idea) and bought a Graco lightweight stroller with a huge basket underneath and a drinks tray at the back which carried a bottle of water for the boys, our camera and some spare rolls of film, it just meant that everything was to hand and we didnt have to keep searching through bags all of the time, it also had a separate compartment for diapers and baby wipes and my daughter had a little tray in front of her that also had a drinks compartment, because the Stroller was new it had a real novelty factor and she wanted to ride in it most of the time. It only cost $50.00 and was worth every cent, and we got to take it home with us. Many Thanks again for all your suggestions, your help was greatly appreciated
