Butler Service

My husband and I will be staying at a resort that has butler service. I assume you would only have the service if requested, such as for for unpacking. What else does one use a butler for? Obviously we have not before! How much do you tip a butler? Any input or advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Twice I've stayed at hotels with butler service...they do all the little things you need such as take your laundry, bring extra towels, etc. One of them had a little kitchenette where he could prepare snacks, breakfast, etc.

You should make sure the service charge isn't already included as an additional fee. If it isn't, the reccommendation is to tip about $5 every time the butler helps out, more if the task is more complex.

Forbes had a great article about this late last year and you can do two things for tipping a butler..you can tip $5-$10 per service or at the end of your visit tip between $50-$200+ depending on the length of stay..(based on a 2 day stay)
If you are assigned a butler, the butler can be the bellman/bellboy, concierge, housekeeping etc..
There are a myriad of butlers from personal, romantic, bath butlers..
What resort laurenzo will you be staying?
How fun!

At the Oriental in Bangkok, midway into my stay the butler sent me a flower arrangemtnt with a note asking me why I wasn't using his services enough....
I think I tipped around $5 for each service.

Thanks for the tips so far. I will stay at the new St. Regis in Ft. Lauderdale. I haven't stayed at a St. Regis but am looking forward to it.
