Bus or Taxi--Charleston airport to Historic downtown?

We aren't renting a car for the first few days of our trip to Charleston. Is there public transportation from the airport (Andrew Pinckney Inn) other than taxi service? What's the cost difference for 4 people? Thanks. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi La-Mesan, it is funny you should ask because my friend and I were in Charleston last week and commented more then once that we never saw a taxi. But they must have them!

Perhaps your hotel could advise you if no one else here can. Or have you gone onto google.com and typed in the airport name. Many airport websites give you information regarding public transportation. Charleston is so beautiful, you will have a wonderful visit I know.

I don't know about the bus service, since we took a taxi to and from the airport when we were there in February. We also noticed the lack of taxis and were told by the bell boy at our hotel that taxis were not allowed to cruise in the historic area.

A couple of weeks ago, my sister and I took a cab, a van really, from the airport to the Holiday Inn Historic District--$20. There is no public transportation. 4 people shouldn't be much more.

Pat_in_Mich, I just saw your post regarding taxis not being allowed in the historical section of Charleston. Very interesting as OWJ and I wondered why we did not see any. But as it turned out, thankfully, we did not need one.
