Burr trail and Notom rd. scenic byways
 

We will be in Utah the latter part of October. Will go to Arches, Canyonlands,Capitol Reef, Bryce and Zion. Don't have a time limit. Would like to know if anybody has driven the Burr Trail to Notom Rd. and back to rt.24? How is Notom Rd.? Is it worth driving this? Is there a better time of the day to do this loop? Any good slot canyons that aren't too strenuous? Any info will be appreciated!

We've done the Burr Trail Notom Rd. a couple of times. Here's that section of our trip report:

There's a little slot-like grotto that you can visit along the Burr Trail in Long Canyon that isn't far from Boulder. No hke ...more like a nice roadside attraction to stretch your legs.

If there has been rain, check to make sure the road is open.

The road is usually good for passenger cars as long as there hasn't been any very recent rain. It can dry out pretty quickly. There are some spots on the Notom trail that are the heavy clay that can get a bit troublesome.

The best hike is to the Strike Valley Overlook. But it is a definite 4x4 road to get to the trailhead, or a longer walk.

There are also hikes into the waterpocket fold from the Notom trail...though many are very long, can be strenuous and may require 4x4 to reach the trailheads

Don;t have a 4x4 so we'll definitely avoid those roads. Also, we're a bit older and won't be tackling strenuous hikes.
