burning man event

did anyone go? feedback? I'm curious. If one goes, what sort of planning do you need to do--i understand it's held in the middle of the desert.

Maybe I am wrong, but people who go to Burning Man are not the type of people who log into travel web sites. But I could be wrong. I think they threw their laptops into the sacrificial fire to rid themselves of excess baggage in their lives.

You're wrong. Burning Man is big on technology too.

youngtom, it's still going on, the man has yet to be burned. The website has good information about prepping for and surviving the event.

There's a book out now called This Is Burning Man that looks good. You might also be interested in the post below, which has links to photos and such from last year's events.

I spent last week at Burning Man. It's not really the place for most Fodorites. The hotel accomodations are non-existant, the restaurants are cafeteria style, and the rest rooms are disgusting. Oh, and there's no way to wash off the dust which is everywhere.

That said, it's the greatest party on earth. Over 35,000 attended. It was windy and cold in the middle of the week but the weather was fabulous on Saturday and Sunday for the major burns. Can't wait for next year.
