Burlington VT to Williamstown MA - recommendeditinerary
After spending a few days in NYC and Boston we are picking up a hire car and doing an 8 day tour during the second half of April - with all the accommodation now booked.
It's a very short time to cover a lot of ground. I am trying to identify the 'must sees' preferably with some wet and dry options.
We are driving from Burlington to Williamstown in one day.
We will probably major on scenery and sights, add in a small touch of culture and avoid spending too long shopping (but don't tell my wife and daughter).
Also worth noting that on the expenditure scale we are usually somewhere between low budget and cheapskate but will fork out if it's really worth it.
Apologies for opening several threads on this but I thought it best to try and be specific rather than cover the whole tour in one.
Thanks in advance
Rick

Hello again, Rick!
Didn't realize your whole itinerary, or would have put all my comments in one place. If end up on Rt. 91, you HAVE stop in So. Deerfield, MA so your wife and daughter can walk through the Yankee Candle flagship store. Incredible selection of candles and Xmas display, ala Rothenburg in Germany. Also, Chandlers Restaurant on-site is great for lunch. And you can get a pastry later at the Um-pah coffe shop while they browse.

Looking at the scenic routes on the map I think we will be west of the 91.
For the first part the choice could be between the 22A, the 30 and 7 or maybe even driving thru the forest onto the 100.
Later it could be the 22, 30, 7 or 7A.
Is there much to choose between these?
Rick

DJK,
Williamstown to Falmouth (which is part of the poster's itinerary) is a huge distance. The poster is also planning on exploring the Berkshires. So he could possibly end up within a half hour of So. Deerfield at some point. The So. Deerfield flagship store is not like a "Yankee Candle Shop." It is a tourist attraction in its own right - with Disney-type audiotronics set up in a "German village," dip-your own candles for kids (and adults), and the most incredible Xmas displays I've seen outside Rothenberg o.d. Tauber, Germany. There is also a very nice restaurant on-site. Just a very nice stop in the middle of a very long drive, if you happen to be somewhat near.
