Burlington?

Can anyone suggest some nice day hikes )with good views) around burlington? We will be driving pretty far to get to Burlington, so dont want to have to drive more than 1/2hr-45mins to the hike, if possible.

The "Burlington" in which state?

blb3 May 21st, 2007 08:41 AM

Vermont-I put it under "Vermont" boards.

There is no Vermont board, you just chose a search term. Since most of us read the whole basic US board (since we're interested in more than one state) it helps a lot if you name the state right in your title.

Little wonder the poster above me wishes to be anonymous. WHAT a rude reply to the OP.
Like the OP, I am also on the Vermont board!

The confusion is that there IS NO "Vermont" board. There are boards for US, Europe, Asia, etc but you can search for entries posted under a specific state .

For example, this is the USpage
http://www.fodors.com/forums/threadselect.jsp?fid=1 Unfortunately, this isn't made clear when you enter a post, but most people just see that you're in a US board and whatever the title of the entry is--this does cause a lot of confusion, and occasional impatience
BTW, loved Burlington (VT) but didn't spend any time hiking in the area, sorry I can't help with that)

To further clarify and follow up on what Janie said.... I don't think anonymous was trying to be rude, but rather he/she was attempting to point out a factor about posting to help the OP get better responses to questions. Even if you're on a specific search board like "Vermont", a question is not posted to that search topic but rather is posted under one of the general boards listed under the categories set out in Fodor's "talk" home page, such as "Europe", "United States", "Canada", etc. It can be confusing, but that's why you will often see people asking for more details. Readers don't know under which search topic a question was asked.

Anonymous has been a regular poster here for years and has always provided helpful information. The response is not rude in anyway. Trust me - there have been some incredibly rude responses to posters who have made the same mistake - Anonymous' is not one of them.
