Budman--how was the Mira Monte?
I'm anxious to hear about your trip? Was your wife surprised? Any restaurant suggestions for us when we are there in August on our honeymoon?
|
littlemo, the Mira Monte was very nice. We stayed in their South Suite which was in a separate building and had its own entrance. I didn't see any of the other rooms, but I did hear favorable comments.
They had wine & cheese between 5-7. It was nice to socialize with the other occupants and exchange ideas. Within walking distance to everything in the town. We got one of their packages which included a cruise out of Northeast Harbor. It was excellent. The package also included $25 toward dinner at Mama Dimatteos Italian Restaurant. It was also excellent. Had pizza the first night at Rosalie's. It was very good and very reasonably priced. It was an "order at the counter" type of place. If you like Thai, the Siam Orchid was Great!! There was another Thai place in town on Cottage Street that didn't look interesting at all. Poor Boy's Gourmet -- Make a reservation - food & wine very reasonable -- place was packed in May. Michelle's on Main Street was a little pricy, and had a great menu. We wanted to go there, but the timing didn't work out. West End Cafe - We didn't go there, but another couple who did gave it a bad review. We took a picnic lunch up to Cadillac Mountain -- I would put that on your list of things to do -- great views on a beautiful, clear day. Took a sunset carriage ride up to one of the peaks -- That was a fun thing to do. They also have private carriage rides. You might want to consider it since it's your honeymoon. Stopped at Jack Russell's. It's a small place on the way into town and they make their own beer. Their beer was terrible. I don't recommend this place. The best beer was Atlantic Brewing in TownHill - Their Real Ale was great. Parkside Restaurant has great reviews from people -- we just stopped in for blueberry pie & ice cream -- Great!! Make sure you walk up to Bubble Rock. Great views. You'll love it up there!!! ((b)) |
It sounds like a great trip! we are staying in the Marlborough room in the main inn and we also got a package which includes 3 activities of our choice. We know we want the day of bike rentals and the whale watching. We might choose kayaking too.
Thanks for the restaurant suggestions. Do you know anything about George's restaurant? Did you go to any lobster pounds? I can't wait! |
I haven't been to George's, but it certainly looks like the type of restaurant I would like to go to.
I thought the lobsters were a little pricy, but they certainly have a captive audience. One lady said she went to Abel's (on Rt 198) and had the "lazy man's" lobster -- the pick it for you. That with a couple of beers she said cost her $50. I'm sure she paid for the ambiance. There are a lot of less expensive places. There are lots & lots of lobster places. It depends upon where you want to go. They can give you some good recommendations at Mira Monte. ((b)) |
Thanks, Budman. Siam Orchid sounds like a good idea when we need a break from lobster!
littlemo: We enjoyed George's last Sept., and I don't recall anyone ever saying they didn't like it there. ~Liz |
