Budget Hotels in San Francisco -- HELP!
Can anyone recommend an inexpensive hotel in San Francisco? I want to be able to walk around from the hotel, feel safe, and (dreaming, perhaps) pay max. $100 per night. I'm there for 10 days and so really need to keep the hotel costs down. Thank you!

Also, if you know of any websites where I can check for special deals, please let me know. I've checked all the obvious sources and am getting overwhelmed.

Cow Hollow Motor Inn on Lombard Street.
The recent post titled "Priceline and Expedia Bidding-The How To's" might help you get a higher quality hotel at a cheaper price. You might want to look into it. I might try it myself.

Try the Andrews Hotel on Post Street, great place that includes a huge buffet breakfast on each floor..prices are extremely reasonable..and it's a boutique type place..and funky..have used it twice.

I just walked past the Chancelor Hotel on Powell St yesterday and they currently have a $99 Sun-Thur special going on which is a real bargin. Not sure how long it runns until. This is a very nice small hotel in a good location. Would definitely call them. The Andrews is also good if you can get a decent rate. Remember that we a have a substantional 14% room tax here. Good luck.

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, I'm still looking. Priceline and Expedia both rejected bids of $100/night in two-star hotels. Any more suggestions are enormously appreciated. Thanks!

The Cow Hollow Motor Inn offers double rooms for just under $100. It is not a fancy hotel, but it is clean and close to great coffee shops, restaurants, and the Union Street shopping district.
