Budget Hotel in New York
I intend to visit New York in April 2003 with my wife staying for 7 nights and would really appreciate advise on a budget hotel , clean, nice location, and convenient for the sights, restaurents, theatre etc.Just one thing does a single room usually come with a double bed i.e . is a large or full sized bed suitable for two.Should i book now and pay the full amount(as most hotels request)and risk losing my money if i cannot travel for some reason or wait till nearer my departure.I have seen that Madison on Madison AV. corner 27 th seems to be popular, any ideas?

Ger; the Madison has several favorable reviews on this site, you would be fine there - but it would be a little walk to the theater (MOST - not all - are 42St. - 55th) you would most likely want to grab a cab.

Take a look at Quickbook.com for other hotel possibilities, if you see anything you might like, post back and well be happy to provide comments. Also, have you considered Priceline? I have found this a very economical way to stay in the city, especially for a longer stay like yours. Last year I bid Midtown East, $75, and got the Hyatt at Park Ave & 42nd. St. Excellent location, clean room (including the bath) king size bed, and we felt very safe there. If you want to bid on Priceline look at Biddingfortravel.com to get an idea about what people are paying for your area/time frame; it's an interesting site.

A single room should have (at least) a double bed (sometimes a queen or king) suitable for two people. You might want to read the hotel booking rates carefully and make sure there is not an extra charge for the second person.

Try the Roosevelt hotel-g0t free night when we stayed four nights through Expedia. 45th and Madison. Clean, reasonable price and size, beautiful lobby. Almost across the street from Grand Central-very convenient for transportation as well as getting a quick snack or breakfast.
www.theroosevelthotel.com

The Chelsea Star Hotel offers very reasonable rates out o season, and is within walking distance of Broadway

Try Priceline (first check bidding for travel for tips). I jsut stayed in a 3 star brand new boutique hotel (read small rooms) for $90 per night. Gorgeous place with a good location, but only a double bed. Probably too small for 7 days stay. Last year I had a huge room in another 3-star hotel just off times square for $80 per night off priceline.

What was the name of the hotel? Is it in the Upper West Side? I found a 3* boutique hotel on hotwire for the same price, and I'm wondering if it's the same place.

Thanks!!
